International Women’s Day 2019 Closes the Market

In celebration of International Women’s Day 2019, a number of executives and members of the capital markets community, joined Tanya Rowntree, Global Head of Client Success, Capital Formation, TMX Group, and Co-Chair, WE Canada, to close the market. For a fifth year, Women in ETFs is partnering with UN Global Compact, UN Women, Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) Initiative, IFC, and the World Federation of Stock Exchanges. Market opens will be held in approximately 75 exchanges globally to raise awareness about the business case for women’s economic empowerment and the opportunities for the private sector to advance gender equality and sustainable development and focus on this year's theme, #BalanceforBetter. Dax Dasilva, CEO, Lightspeed POS Inc. (LSPD), joined Loui Anastasopoulos, President, Capital Formation, Toronto Stock Exchange & TSX Venture Exchange, to open the market. Headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, Lightspeed provides an omni-channel commerce-enabling Software as a Service (Saas) platform for small and medium-sized businesses across the globe, in approximately 100 countries. Founded in 2005, Lightspeed has grown to approximately 700 employees, with global offices in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Australia. Lightspeed POS Inc. commenced trading on Toronto Stock Exchange on March 8, 2019.

Mexican Mining Delegation Closes the Market

Francisco José Quiroga Fernández, Undersecretary of Mining, Ministry of Economy, Government of Mexico, joined Loui Anastasopoulos, President, Capital Formation, Toronto Stock Exchange & TSX Venture Exchange, to close the market. Currently, there are 126 mining companies in Mexico, with 364 properties listed on Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange. In 2018, these companies raised approximately $411 million in equity capital.

Peruvian Mining Delegation Opens the Market

Mercedes Araoz, Vice President of Peru, joined Guillaume Legare, Head, South America, Capital Formation, TMX Group, to open the market. Currently, there are 56 mining companies in Peru, with 130 properties listed on Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange. In 2018, these companies raised approximately $211 million in equity capital.

African Mining Delegation Closes the Market

An African mining delegation comprised of government officials and mining companies, joined Dean McPherson, Head, Global Mining, Business Development, TMX Group, to close the market during the annual PDAC mining conference. Currently, there are 108 mining companies listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange, with 356 mining properties in 34 African countries. In 2018, these companies raised approximately $860 million in equity capital.
