African Mining Delegation Closes the Market

​An African mining delegation comprised of government officials and mining companies joined Nick Thadaney, President and CEO, Global Equity Capital Markets, TMX Group, to close the market during the annual PDAC mining conference. Currently, there are 128 mining companies listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange with 477 mining properties in 37 African countries. In 2016 these companies raised $1.8 billion in equity capital.

International Women’s Day Opens the Market

Alina Polonskaia, Principal and Leader of Diversity and Inclusion, Mercer, and Catherine Reitman, Creator, Executive Producer, Writer and Star of Workin’ Moms, joined Tanya Rowntree, VP, Regional Sales, TSX Trust, and Co-Chair, WE Canada to open the market. For a third year, Women in ETFs is partnering with UN Global Compact, UN Women, the Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) Initiative, IFC, and the World Federation of Stock Exchanges. Market opens will be held in over 40 exchanges globally to raise awareness about the business case for women’s economic empowerment and the opportunities for the private sector to advance gender equality and sustainable development and focus on this year's theme, Women at Work.

Peruvian Mining Delegation Closes the Market

H.E. Gonzalo Tamayo Flores, Peruvian Minister of Mines and Energy, joined Nick Thadaney, President and CEO, Global Equity Capital Markets, TMX Group to close the market. Currently, there are 58 mining companies in Peru with 152 properties, who are listed on Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange. These companies raised $2.3 billion in equity capital in 2016.

Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) Opens the Market

Glenn Mullan, President, Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), joined Orlee Wertheim, Head Business Development, Global Mining, Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange to open the market. PDAC’s annual convention is taking place from March 5-8, 2017 at The Metro Toronto Convention Centre. With a membership of over 8,000, the PDAC’s mission is to promote a responsible, vibrant and sustainable Canadian mineral exploration and development sector. The PDAC encourages leading practices in technical, environmental, safety and social performance in Canada and internationally. Since it began in 1932, the annual PDAC Convention has grown in size and scope. In 2016, the event included nearly 1,000 exhibitors and over 22,000 attendees from 125 countries, as well as numerous technical sessions, short courses, social and networking events.
