Bootstrapping

Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange are pleased to support "Bootstrapping in America: Canada Week" and the valuable awareness it will bring to Canada's entrepreneurs and innovative, early-stage companies.

“bootstrapping”: A situation in which an entrepreneur starts a company with little capital. An individual is said to be bootstrapping when he or she attempts to found and build a company from personal finances or from the operating revenues of the new company.

The webcast series will run from June 15 to June 19 and focus exclusively on Canadian entrepreneurs and companies. The show is adapted from the popular Bootstrapping in America series which is featured on tastytrade, an online financial network for traders.

Bootstrapping in Canada Week will feature the following companies:

June 15: ThinkData Works. The Toronto-based open data startup aggregates information from all levels of government, allowing developed businesses and citizens to access data in standard useable formats.

June 16: ClearFit. The company is involved in Predictive Job Matching, which uses patented technology to predict who will succeed at which job and why, in one step.

June 17: Videogami. The startup offers a web platform that accepts video from live streams and allows people at live events to create instant vignettes from the feed so they can amplify the reach of the event through social media.

June 18: FlipGive. This is a free digital fundraising platform for schools, sports, and community initiatives. Current partners include Lowe's, Schwan's, ALDO, Indigo Books & Music, Starbucks, Under Armour, and other Fortune 1000 companies.

June 19: Street Contxt. The company provides a global knowledge exchange for institutional finance. The company's vision is to bring clarity to the increasingly fragmented marketplace and connect sell-side content with the preferences of buy-side participants.
